Rocky Mountain National Park Leads America’s Online Searches for Top Fall Destinations
A comprehensive internet search, including hashtags and Google searches, has identified America’s top fall getaways.
A new study by Heepsy identified the top ten fall destinations in the U.S. by examining factors such as the number of Instagram hashtags, Google searches, visitor counts, average temperatures, and the overall popularity of these locations.
Data collection focused on six key factors: the number of Instagram hashtags, Google searches to gauge social media appeal and public interest, an overall online popularity score reflecting a destination’s digital presence, the annual visitor count indicating real-world accessibility, average fall temperatures for seasonal comfort, and distinctive features that make each location unique.
Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado ranks first in online popularity with a score of 12.8, making it the top fall destination in the U.S. Attracting over 4.3 million visitors each year, it is the most visited location on the list. Known for its breathtaking golden aspens and diverse wildlife, it also boasts approximately 3.5 million Instagram hashtags, the second highest among the destinations.
Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada claims the second spot, with a combined online popularity score of 9.02 million, primarily driven by 8.7 million Google searches—the second highest in the study. With a milder average fall temperature of 50.2°F, it provides an ideal setting for exploring its striking red sandstone formations. However, it attracts only 250,000 visitors each year, indicating that while many are interested, fewer actually make the trip.
Mount Rainier National Park in Washington ranks third, boasting an online popularity score of 7.19 million and attracting over 2 million visitors each year. Its snow-capped peaks and towering evergreens create a stunning landscape that captures significant attention, with nearly 500,000 Instagram hashtags highlighting its breathtaking beauty during the fall season.
Lake Tahoe, located on the border of California and Nevada, secures the fourth spot. A social media favorite, it boasts 3.1 million Instagram hashtags for #LakeTahoe, second only to Rocky Mountain National Park. With its crystal-clear waters framed by golden aspens, it draws approximately 1.5 million visitors each year, making it a prime destination for those in search of cozy autumn scenery.
